Greening up Acocks Green

Another weekend of community spirit. On Saturday Acocks Green Village in Bloom were at Stockfield Funday encouraging children and adults to try a little gardening, with pick and mix planters, a plant swap and seed-sowing with children.  Anyone who sowed seeds on Saturday –  we would love to see the results when they start to grow! Just get in touch.

On Sunday Acocks Green Neighbourhood Forum Canal Group were working with Canals and Rivers Trust to clean up our adopted stretch of the canal. We did our usual litter-picking, cutting branches back, pulling out rubbish from the canal and the Canals Trust had given us lots of lovely native ferns so we planted them around the embankments. We also had some new volunteers who enjoyed putting something back in the community. Thank you to everyone who came along. There were around 14 of us altogether and we collected around 20 bags of rubbish.
We saw lots of boats, bikes and joggers. There is a really friendly feel along the canal on a Sunday morning, we are lucky to have this historic waterway in our area.
