Blooming Tulips

Have you seen the array of tulips around the village? With different colours and different styles, they add something special to our area. All thanks to the hard work of the
Village in Bloom volunteers back in November. The bulbs were planted all the way through the village, from St Mary’s Churchyard up to the Triabout on the border of Birmingham and Solihull. You can also see them in Mallard Close Orchard, at the library, in tree planters along the main road and on the corner of Woodcock Lane.

Here are a few photos we have taken, but if you have some nice ones you would like to share then, please email them to AGNForum@hotmail.co.uk and we will add the best ones to our gallery.

If you would like to come to help Village in Bloom, they meet every Sunday at 10am. You don’t have to be a gardener to help improve our area! You can email Fran Lee to join the mailing list.

    Dear Acocks Green Neighbourhood Forum,

Yes indeed an absolute joy to see and thank you to those that have made the superb effort to bring such pleasure to us all and particularly attempting to maintain our village atmosphere that we all wish to preserve and treasure

especially with BCC investing in an upgrade to our infrastructure in recent years.

What urgently needs addressing is the recent emergence of some retailers and restauranteurs turning our Warwick Road High Street/ Village Atmosphere into something likened to Blackpool Illuminations or perhaps a Fairground.

We now have invasive, garish flashing lights on many shop fronts and restaurants and pallet loads of onions potatoes and fruits etc piled high on our pavements, totally out of context to our village ascetic and surely illegal.

Although we must accept welcomingly the “Evolution” of our high streets, surely such feckless, attention seeking, out of context disregard or any care, understanding, consideration, concern, interest or empathy of what

so many in our community have strived to preserve for many years for our village identity cannot just be cast to the wind for the sake of profit.

I understand our good Councillor Roger Harmer has set about addressing this matter and I look forward to hearing of any progress being made.

If his efforts are being frustrated I propose we raise a petition to have our village returned to its former understated modest thoughtful ambience making it a pleasure to visit and interact with for all.

    Gerald Leslie Hemming.
