Public Meeting – Tuesday 28th January – 7.30pm
Our next Public Meeting takes place on Tuesday. Our guest speaker is Joe Holyoak, architect and Urban designer, who has made a study of Acocks Green Village and it’s historical development through the different architectural styles that exist in our area. He will give a slide presentation offering insight into some familiar buildings in our neighbourhood. There is a proposal to make part of Acocks Green a Conservation Area, which is an official recognition of the historical value of some buildings. We already have several Grade II Buildings, including the Police Station and the Baptist Church.
We also welcome to the meeting Jenny Millward – The Acocks Green Ward Champion, and are expecting a respresentative from Fleet and Waste Management and an update from The local Police.
There will be refreshments and an opportunity to raise any concerns or comments.
Everyone welcome, so come along and find out more.
What Will You Learn in 2014?
As 2014 commences, it is a time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. There is always something new to learn and Birmingham Adult Education Service has many new courses starting in January. In Acocks Green village we are lucky to have the Stone Hall Adult Education Centre, (Warwick Road, opposite St Mary’s Church) which hosts many different opportunities to learn new skills for pleasure or to gain qualifications. Courses range from sewing classes, ESOL, computers, singing, pottery, Great Women in History, Computerised Accounts, job searching and interview skills and lots more! If you are in receipt of benefits then some of the courses may be free.
Birmingham City Council have produced two course programmes, dividing the city into North and South. This lists all the courses available starting in 2014. To see the South programme, which includes Stone Hall centre, click here, or call into the centre when it re-opens on 2nd January 2014

It’s Panto Season in Acocks Green – Oh Yes It Is!
Lots of people don’t realise that Acocks Green has it’s very own theatre, and although it is called Hall Green Little Theatre (HGLT), it is just within the AG boundary – a hidden gem just off Fox Hollies Road. Anyway here is your chance to enjoy a night out at our local theatre for just £1 (the cost of becoming a member). HGLT is putting on a special promotion to invite local people to their theatre for a traditional pantomime of the story of Robin Hood.
Lucy V commented:
I went yesterday with my son and really enjoyed it. All the children there had a great time! Really recommend going, I had never been to HGLT before but will definitely be back.
Anyone interested just needs to go along to the theatre between 7pm and 7.20pm and quote ‘Panto Promo’ to claim these FREE TICKETS. All adults will only need to pay a one pound annual membership fee and register as a member. Children under 18 go free. Note this great offer is for the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday performances only (subject to availability).
